Bats, Drake and Shep - Upcoming Games That Should Be Awesome!

After a fairly underwhelming year or two of sub-par games (mostly damn shooters), with the odd good one - we're about to be spoiled in a big way.
The last half of this year, and the start of next year, will see some highly anticipated titles coming our way. I don't know about you, but I've been waiting impatiently for several games - all of them sequels.

The following titles are the ones that really get my geek juices flowing - next month will see Batman: Arkham City released, follow-up to the popular, and excellent Batman: Arkham Asylum. We'll get to see Bats in a more open setting, flitting around an enclosed area of Gotham City, with new foes to clobber about the face and neck.

November sees the return of Nathan Drake and Victor "Goddamn" Sullivan, in Uncharted 3 - Drake's Deception. The third game in the hugely popular Uncharted series, exclusive to PS3 - games which set a precedent for excellent voice acting, and feeling like you're playing a summer movie.

Also in early October, Dark Souls - a must for all you masochistic gamers who love a challenge! This is the "spiritual successor" to From Software's Demon's Souls, the only game in recent memory that had me close to chucking a major tanty, yet I kept coming back to it, because it was great. It was brutal, but it was fair.

And who could forget The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim . Oblivion was huge, and this one promises to be even bigger. Let's hope for an Adoring Fan we can brutally murder in various diabolical ways.

Tali'Zorah unmasked!
The big one for me though, coming out in March 2012, is of course Mass Effect 3. This one promises to be huge, and I for one can't wait. Mass Effect 2 is already considered to be one of the best games of the decade, the end of which left fans gasping for more. We finally get to find out how our choices over the previous two games, and the upcoming choices we'll have to make in the third game, will affect the outcome of the war with the Reapers. Garrus will be back causing lady-quakes, and maybe, if we're good boys and girls, we'll finally get to see Tali's face. 'Cos let's face it, we all hit that without knowing if she had a face like a monkey's puckered bum. This one is going to fly off the shelves, so pre-order!

That's not a complete list by any means, but given how it seems that most new games in recent times have catered to the FPS crowd, these few titles will be a welcome change.

So what about you? What upcoming games are you eagerly anticipating?

  1. The trailer for Uncharted 3 looks great - what a shame the movie for the series didn't take off. Are they still casting Marky Mark as Drake? Pft. He's clearly Nathan Fillion.

No matter what Tali looks like under the helmet, I doubt it can live up to the hype. It'll be interesting to see, nonethless.
